Almost two years after the Palisades fire, the community’s only movie theater is set to reopen. The blaze that killed 12 people and destroyed homes and businesses over 20,000 acres also damaged the Palisades Village shopping Center just off Sunset Boulevard. The Bay Theater anchors the center and remained dark when the complex reopened in August following a $100 million renovation.
Owner Caruso Affiliated has announced that the luxury cinema will reopen under the management of Skydance, which recently acquired Paramount Pictures. “Get ready for an unparalleled guest experience with first-run theatrical Paramount releases, nostalgic classics and more,” Caruso posted on the center’s website. “All paired with luxurious seating, state-of-the-art sound and projection, in-theater dining and signature cocktails, and an unparalleled guest experience.”

The theater was initially operated by Cinépolis when it opened in 2018.

Amazon took over Pacific’s Culver in Culver City in 2022 and recently expanded the multiplex to 11 screens. In 2024, Sony Pictures acquired the Alamo Drafthouse chain, which operates a dozen screens Downtown and is in the process of renovating the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood. Pacific Theaters ran the El Capitan for Disney until the company took over the lease after the pandemic.
