Do you have a crush on me now, Danielle?

Your daily Minnesota news roundup starts … NOW.

The parents of Alex Pretti, Michael and Susan Pretti, held a news conference on Tuesday taking the federal government to task for dragging their feet on the investigation into their son’s death at the hands of ICE during Operation Metro Surge. The couple singled out Minnesota Attorney Daniel Rosen, saying that he has refused to provide any kind of update for the last nine months.

“We don’t want to be on TV and we don’t want to become political activists,” Susan Pretti said. “All we want is justice for Alex. We are here today to simply request the federal government to treat us with the dignity and respect our son deserved.”

An ad for Rep. Lisa Demuth’s run for governor that began airing earlier this month calls out “Somali gangs” and singles out the Somali American accused of planning an attack on the Mall of America, and it’s drawing opprobrium from community members and politicians, as well as support from some Republicans.

Cleveland Park in North Minneapolis has reopened with “new basketball courts, outdoor fitness equipment and the park system’s first Bankshot court, an interactive basketball activity that challenges players to make shots using angled backboards.” Students at nearby Lucy Laney Elementary School also created artwork for the space through an afterschool mural program.

Can Donald Trump run for president in 2028? Let’s see.

Remember yesterday, when I said Minnesota sports fans had nothing to complain about? Oh what a difference a day makes, now that Anthony Edwards is undergoing an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee that could sideline him for two months, and the undefeated Vikings may have a paper tiger problem at quarterback as Kyler Murray struggles and the defense and field goal unit feast. In short, their charmed run so far is unlikely to survive the full regular season, much less the gauntlet of the postseason. Ah, that feels more like Minnesota sports fandom.

This year’s midterm gubernatorial race is on pace to be the most expensive in state history, funded largely by outside groups who have dumped tens of millions into it. The numbers here are frankly eye-watering.

The Edison High School Band did some traveling this past summer and along the way, stopped at Jack White’s Third Man Records in Detroit where they got to record some music. They just got the vinyl, and man, is it cool.

And finally in your Minnesota news roundup: You may have seen billboards up around the Twin Cities advertising a new comedy special on Comedy Central and calling out specific people, as in, “Do you have a crush on me now, Seth?” Prior Lake native Chloe Radcliffe is the comedian with the smart idea to needle her high school crushes with the highly targeted ads. I was unable to reach my former crush, Danielle Mysliwiec, for comment.
